If you're reading this article, you've probably already set up your Product Categories successfully. Just in case you haven't done this in a while, here are a few reminders:
Categories Template
The Categories Template (“RepZio_Import_ProductCategories.xls”) is used to load the categories for your products into WebManager or JuniperData. Please make sure that your Categories template are in .xls, .xlsx or .txt (Tab Delimited) format.
Categories Template Fields
- ItemID - The item code or SKU of the product you want in a specific category
- Categories - The name of the category in which you want a specific product placed
- SortOrder - The desired order of the products within a category
- IsDeleted - Manages whether or not you want a specific product to appear within a specific category. Mark “FALSE” for the product to appear in the category, and “TRUE” for it to be removed from the category
Naming Categories
The naming convention for categories differs based on whether or not the categories contain subcategories. For example:
- If you are not using subcategories, simply type the name of the category in the Categories column: Example: Clothes
- If you are using subcategories, use a forward slash to indicate the next category level: Example: /Clothes/Shorts
- If you want to assign a product to multiple categories, you can do so using a pipe (|) character. Note: There CANNOT be any spaces before or after the pipe on the spreadsheet:
Incorrect: Clothes | Fashion or /Clothes/Shorts | /Fashion/Pants
Correct: Clothes|Fashion or /Clothes/Shorts|/Fashion/Pants
Now that your memory has been refreshed on Categories, let's talk about the task at hand: Re-categorizing products.
If you would like to assign a previously categorized product to a different category, this is done in 2 quick steps:
How To For JuniperData
1. You will first need to remove the product from its current Category:
- Export your product categories from JuniperData by navigating to Products > Categories > Export Categories (from the "Actions" dropdown)
- Open the newly-downloaded category export file
- Enter "TRUE" in the IsDeleted column for the item you would like to remove from its current category
Please note that deleting the Category information from the Category field on the spreadsheet will NOT remove products from their current Categories.
- Save the file and then upload it back into JuniperData as a "Product Categories" file.
- Make sure your data looks good on the preview screen and process your file!
2. Update the Category for the desired product(s)
- Export your product categories from JuniperData by navigating to Products > Categories > Export Categories (from the "Actions" dropdown)
- Open the newly-downloaded category export file
- Update the Category field with the new Category information for the desired product(s)
- Save the file and then upload it back into JuniperData as a "Product Categories" file.
- Note: You must wait for a toast / pop up message to appear mentioning that your products have processed
- After that has occurred, at the top of your page a message will display in green, "Push Data Live".
This message will display once the first file has completed processing (If you are uploading multiple files, please confirm all files have completed processing in the Recent Upload Activity) . Click on "Push Data Live" and Juniper Data will confirm if you want to push your data live into your account. If you have Sales Reps selling your products using the RepZio iPad app, they will need to log out and back into the app to see the category updates.
How To For WebManager
1. You will first need to remove the product from its current Category:
- Export your product categories from WebManager by navigating to Manage Data > Export Data > Export Category Products (with Sub-Categories)
- Open the newly-downloaded category export file
- Enter "TRUE" in the IsDeleted column for the item you would like to remove from its current category
Please note that deleting the Category information from the Category field on the spreadsheet will NOT remove products from their current Categories.
- Save the file and then upload it back into WebManager as a "Product Categories" file.
- Make sure your data looks good on the preview screen and process your file!
2. Now it's time to update the Category for the desired product(s):
- Export your product categories from WebManager by navigating to Manage Data > Export Data > Export Category Products (with Sub-Categories)
- Open the newly-downloaded category export file
- Update the Category field with the new Category information for the desired product(s)
- Save the file and then upload it back into WebManager as a "Product Categories" file.
- Make sure your data looks good on the preview screen and process your file!
Once you're done making all your updates, be sure to push your data live. If you have Sales Reps selling your products using the RepZio iPad app, they will need to log out and back into the app to see the category updates.
Important: The Categories template is also used to load WebCategories as well. WebCategories can be used to show different Categories on your JuniperWeb (B2B) website than you do on your sales app. The only difference is that when uploading the spreadsheet, you must choose "Web Categories" from the "Choose type of data you want to import" drop-down menu.
